The new reality for many parents is the scramble to balance work, family and health (both mental and physical). Our HR team sat down (via Zoom) with Mercedes Sarubbi, our SAP Banking Specialist to see how she is managing the juggle.
What is the project you are working on?
I’m working for SAP C4B (cloud for banking) in Xinja’s neobank project.
What is your role in the project?
I’m a Senior SAP Banking consultant.
Describe for us a typical working day before Covid19?
Before Covid19, I woke up, helped my 9 year old get ready for school (school, right? who would have thought we’ll miss it!), cuddled baby Antonio and the nanny arrived by 8am! I caught the train to busy Sydney CBD and enjoyed a cup of coffee with colleagues.
Due to the arrival of Covid19 across the world, you are now working full time from home with a primary school-aged child and a new baby under 12 months. How are you balancing parenting and work?
I have to say: it is not easy! Over the past two months I’ve figured that as a mum I need to prioritise what I do: it’s all about finding the balance without compromising the family and the work to be done. It’s about being realistic with the expectations.
Have you felt the support from your employer and client since Australia implemented lockdown measures?
I’m really lucky to have Liberty IT and SAP helping me through this challenging situation. They have always been supportive even after hearing a few baby giggles over the phone.
How do you think these challenges brought on by Covid19 will positively impact our country moving forward?
I believe the situation has forced a lot of people to work from home and we now know that we are perfectly capable of being happy and productive and that more flexible arrangements are possible.
What has been the hardest part of this “new normal” for you as a working mother?
The new normal means less ‘me’ time and no change of location – sometimes I find myself working longer or crazier hours because I’m home. You can lose track of time when you don’t commute to the office!
What do you love most about your job?
I love the flexibility it gives me. I can spend time with the kids yet make a great contribution in the SAP C4B space.
What do you find unique about working for Liberty IT?
Liberty IT feels like a big family! It has given me the opportunity to work for one of the most promising projects for Australia’s most known neo-bank.
